摘要

Automated classification of animal vocalizations is an important task for the study of animal behavhior in the wild, such as ecological monitoring of species diversity without direct visual identification. One of the major research thrusts in this area has been the study of birdsong, which is of particular interest for two reasons: First, songbirds sue some of the most elaborate vocalizations in the animal kngdomn to identify members of the same kind, defend territory, and engage in courtship. Moreover, in amy songbird species the songs are not innate, but are learned during sensitive perods during development. Songbirds have, theorfore, long served as a model system i enuroethology.
