A Comparison of Melt Performance of Stack Melters Versus Traditional Reverbs

A comparison is made between the operating characteristics of stack melters and traditional reverberatory furnace melters for aluminum alloys. Specifically, the melt quality produced by two adjacent furnaces melting metal for the same product line is compared, as are the primary reasons for the noted differences. Field experiences from other installations of stack melters are reported, with special emphasis upon energy requirements, melt losses and user comments regarding safety related issues.
