Comparison of fiber morphology analyzers

Optical fiber analyzers are valuable tools for the evaluation of fiber potential in pulp and paper industry. These analyzers can be used for fast and reliable measuring of various fiber properties in on-line pulp quality monitoring as well as in research laboratories. In this study, FiberLab, FiberMaster, FS-200 and MorFi were used to analyze recycled pulps in order to find out whether or not results obtained with different analyzer devices could be compared. Some recommendations are proposed for carrying out analysis on recycled pulps. All of the analyzers were found to be adequate tools for measuring fiber properties, but there were level differences between the results. However, linear correlations between the analyzer results were good and therefore the results can be calibrated to each other. This will enable the comparison of the results between different optical fiber analyzers.
