摘要

In this paper, the influences of refractive index profiles in multimode fibres fabricated by Plasma-activated Chemical Vapour Deposition (PCVD) on differential mode delay (DMD) are studied. According to the improvement of PCVD process, we have obtained multimode fibres with highly precise graded index profiles which are important to determine the DMD characteristic for OM-3 fibres. The effects of draw-induced profile change on the optical characteristics are also investigated experimentally. Due to the excellent capability of PCVD to manufacture high quality optical multimode fibres, a relative high yield of OM-3 fibres supporting up to 550 meter link lengths with VCSELs in the 10 Gb/s Ethernet system can be achieved.
