Troubleshooting and Solving Poor Control Loop Performance

Most power plants have a few control loops that seem to never control their process properly. These loops may oscillate for seemingly no reason or deviate far from their set points during load ramps and disturbances, often overshooting their set points afterwards. Tuners can spend many hours trying to improve the performance of these challenging control loops, but the results often remain unsatisfactory. This paper provides guidance for troubleshooting and solving the problems underlying persistent, poor control loop performance.
