This paper considers the development of closedrnloop regulation and tracking algorithms for membranes, basedrnon the travelling wave approach. The membrane is modelledrnby a combination of modal decomposition in one spatial axisrnand transfer functions in the other. The transfer functions arernirrational and are shown to represent the wave motion in thernsystem. A dedicated closed loop control algorithm is designed torneliminate the wave reflections in the control axis. The resultingrncontrollers are irrational as well, and approximations are usedrnto implement them. The closed loop achieves both attenuationrnof external disturbances and stabilization of the membranesrnposition on a desired profile.
