In conclusion, we have shown that a Al/Alq_3CsF can be successfully used to fabricate efficient and bright OLED's. It is anticipated that a far better performance can be obtained through the use of luminescent dopants and/or a three-layer organic structure. To this effect, recently, we were able to fabricate state-of-the-art OLEDs with forward light output exceeding 140,000 cd/m~2 when operated in CW voltage mode, at room temperature. Our work clearly indicates that a thin layer of an insulating material is not a requisite for efficient OLED's as is currently believed.
