CAUSES AND PREVENTIVE MEASURES FOR JOINT DAMAGES OF CEMENT CONCRETE PAVEMENT

This paper discusses with causes and provides preventive measures for joint damages of cement concrete pavement from three aspects of design, construction and maintenance. In the design phase, reasonable position of extension joint and contraction joint, choosing fine quality joint fillers or joint fillets, and the adoption of structural layer design, can prevent joint damages effectively. In the construction phase, a preferential adoption of cut joint, especially soft cut technology, and improvement of traditional constructional techniques, can improve joint filling quality and are all important measures for preventing joint damages. It is also of fatal importance enhancing utilization management and daily maintenance for preventing joint damages.
