PRODUCTIVE EFFICIENCY AND MANAGEMENT EFFICIENCY

quantitative description of management is important for improving management level. The theory and measures of productive efficiency are commonly used to evaluate management work of decision making units (DMUs) recently. However, productive efficiency has limitation on such evaluation work as they fail to reflect the efficient effort of a DMU's managerial group on improving their management work. This paper indicates the limitation of productive efficiency on evaluating management work and proposes the notion of management efficiency. A two stage method which combines Analysis Hierarchy Process(AHP) and Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA) is proposed as a measure of management efficiency which aims at inspiring managerial group to improve their management level.
