Results of engineering calculations of convective and radiation heat transfer and the thermal protection thickness for the vehicle intended for descent on to the Earth surface (Earth Descent Vehicle, or EDV) with samples of the Martian ground are presented. Calculations were performed for two configurations of EDV. The former is the configuration proposed for realization in the present work, the latter is the configuration proposed in [1]. Two descent trajectories (with angles of entry of 6 and 11.8 degrees) were considered. Though shapes of the vehicle are substantially different, the values of total heat fluxes differ from each another insignificantly, and their peak values are equal to ~ 7...8 MW/m~2. The values of convective and radiative heat fluxes calculated by the proposed technique, are in a good agreement with data presented in [1].
