Application of fine collagen powder to composite materials

Fine collagen powder was manufactured from poly methyl methacrylate grafted collagen by means of pulverizing with a jetmill. The graft-copolymerization was carried out according to uncatalyzed polymerization method. Pulverization of the grafted collagen was performed effectively. Mean diameters of the powder were about from 0.3 to 10 micron meters of long. The collagen powders possess binary medium properties, hydrophilic and hydrophobic character. Therefore, the powder has high dispersibility in aqueous and oily medium matrix. The powder is widely applicable to paints for leather top coat, finishing agents, retanning agents, filler for plastics and primer coat for adhesivers etc.
