The refrigeration system of a cold store typically does not run continuously, but only for a certainrnnumber of hours per day. This provides a freedom to select the hours in which the refrigerationrnsystem is running. We also see that in current electricity markets, the electricity is priced on anrnhourly basis. By selecting the Time of Use (ToU) of the cold store refrigeration system, we canrntherefore influence electricity costs, and aim for minimum costs within set temperaturernboundaries. The ESTORE project has developed a controller for Cold Stores that provides thisrnelectricity cost benefit to the cold store owner. Estimates for the cost reduction are given in thisrnarticle, provided the energy contract of the cold store is based on the day ahead prices of one ofrnthe electricity spot markets of France, Germany/Austria, Belgium or the UK.
