In today's dynamic global economy and competitive and competitive market place, it is becoming extremely critical to implement major changes in the core business process and then maintain continuous process improvement strategies for gaining competitive advantage and sustaining it. The twenty-first century business strategy calls for a dynamic network organization and systems to satisfy the demand for product varieties with immediate deliveries. The paper proposes a framework for bringing about a major change in the manufacturing strategy redesigning the factory layout, people organization, manufacturing process flow and systems and procedures. The paper specifically outlines how to convert a factory to synchronous flow manufacturing and integrate JIT, MRP II and selected initiatives from TQM that provide for an infrastructure for the manufacturing strategy to operate.
