Definitions, standards and regulation for disturbancesrnrelated to the AC single-phase railway loads occurringrnon the EDF utility network in France, networkrnoperating are presented as well as planning measuresrnspecific to the supply of the railway load. Variousrnsolutions for unbalance compensation are thenrndiscussed, including network reinforcement and powerrnelectronics solutions. Eventually, a project ofrninstallation of a 20 MVA self-commutated unbalancerncompensator in a 25 kV AC single-phase railwayrnsubstation fed by the three-phase 90 kV utility network,rnis described on both technical and economical aspects.
