Conventional air-insulated substationrnconfigurations usually following the traditionalrnconcepts for low rise, in-line and transversernlayouts. These configurations are very landrnconsuming and an economic combination ofrnequipment into standard groups is an onerousrntask. The authors show a substation configuration,rnmimicking a high-rise concept, which reduces thernrequired land to 1/3 of that required by arnconventional arrangement. The basis for this newrnsubstation concept is a pre-fabricated AIS-Modulerncontaining circuit breaker, instrument transformer,rndisconnectors, and a local control cubicle withrnstandardised interfaces. Substation configurationsrnsuch as H-arrangement, single busbar, doublernbusbar, double busbar with bypass disconnector,rnetc. can be realised flexibly and in compact designrnwhilst maintaining standardisation.rnA substation project, at present under execution,rnshows the design change from a conventionalrnlow-rise arrangement into a double busbarrnconfiguration with future possibilities forrnextensions.
