The Effect of Hair Treatments as Measured by Dynamic Mechanical Analysis

There are many different treatments for human hair on the market. These treatments include shampoos, conditioners and shaving creams, just to name a few. These treatments change the appearance (luster) and feel (stiffness) of the hair. The effect of these treatments on hair is of great importance to the producers. New product development is accelerated when these effects can be analyzed faster and more accurately with analytical instrumentation. These treatments change the hair by either surface modification of the fiber or changing the modulus (stiffness) of the hair. This paper will examine the changes in the stiffiiess of hair using a Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer (DMA).
