The requirement for this project was to isolate ground shock and vibration from a very large gantry type coordinate measuring machine (CMM) in a manufacturing facility very close to the Pacific Ocean and centered between two earthquake faults which would be considered to be in a Zone 4, being the most severe on a scale of 1 to 4. The goal was to measure to within 1 micron during work hours. The project required a large isolated stiff seismic mass to support the CMM and have the capability of lowering the mass to floor level allowing for inspection part loading and unloading. The CMM was located in a temperature controlled room. The project was scheduled for two years and was complete ahead of schedule and within budget.
