Mathematical models of pellet induration processes have been developed and carefully validated by a number of workers in the past 10 years or so. However, the exploitation of such models in process optimisation requires a clear understanding of the factors that control the operation. In this paper, we will describe a generic approach to induration process optimisation and illustrate this with applications to straight grate processes. The potential to achieve significant increases in production and/or energy savings for more consistent quality of carefully specified products will be considered.
