Various subject of studies are discussed to develop innovative refining processes in the 21st century for cost reduction, production of high quality steel and environmental conservation. The future refining reactor should have abilities of highly efficient mixing and separation of different phases. It is stressed that applications of electromagnetic and ultrasound energies, and control of flow fields are required to create the highly efficient mixing / separation reactor.
