1 Introduction Language and literature are interwoven. Language is the source of literature; literature is the application of language. Simpson (1997) claims modern stylistics as the applied linguistic study exploring linguistic structure and function by way of text analysis. On the other hand, the exploration of linguistic structure also shed light on the profound understanding of literary works. “It might be that whereas in poetry, aesthetic effect cannot be separated from the creative manipulation of the linguistic code" (Leech & Short, 2001).
