Study on application of quenching of high pressure nitrogen

In actual production the reference data of high pressure nitrogen is few.In this paper, the 12 bar high pressure furnace of IPSEN was studied.The cooling rate of test samples which were made by different materials and had different size was measured at different nitrogen pressure.The results showed that the cooling capacity of high pressure nitrogen was less than standard quenching oil.As the effective thickness of samples increased, the cooling rate decreased obviously.So high pressure nitrogen quenching was only fit for medium alloy steel and high-alloy steel with high hardenability and the batch should be considered together.
