Polyphenylene vinylene(PPV) based polymers are the main candidates for fabrication of polymer light-emitting devices, such as light-emitting diodes(LED) and light-emitting electrochemical cells(LEC)[2,3]. Comparatively speaking, LEC exhibits some distinguished features from LED. The operating bias of LEC is close to the band gap of PPV, the electroluminescent efficiency is improved significantly, and the device is not sensitive to the electrode materials(cathode). The active layer of LEC is a mixture of PPV(and its derivatives), ion-conducting materials(e.g. PEO), and supporting electrolytes. Then the question comes out because PEO shows strong polarity while PPV not, these polymers tend to separate thermodynamically.
