The Mini-cold Storage, a new type of cold storages in producing field which is suitable to the present agriculture producing system in China, is the first step of the cold storage chain. Using LCA (life cycle assessment) method, the equation calculating the optimum thickness of the thermal insulating layer in life cycle was derived, and the optimum thickness of two thermal insulating layers made from two different insulators was calculated. Then the reducing time of mini-cold storage was introduced, and the equation calculating the reducing time was derived. The time was tested by the experiment. The results show that the optimum thickness has no relationship with the volume of mini-cold storage, and the reducing time will increase with the decrease of the heat conductivity coefficient of insulators.
