Riverdale Road over I-84; Piecing it Together

The Riverdale Road over 1-84 Bridge in Riverdale, UT required replacement in conjunction with roadway widening and upgrading the interchange from a diamond to a Single Point Urban Interchange (SPUI). In order to reduce the construction impact to the area, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) employed Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) using prefabricated bridge elements. Several innovative solutions were implemented including precast bent columns and caps, precast abutment wall sections, precast bolt-on end diaphragm sections, and precast non-composite concrete deck panels.
