This paper will address various design and construction challenges facing the on-going alteration of CSX Transportation Bridge over the Mobile River in Hurricane, Alabama including the search for the most economical scheme. It will address the impact and benefits of the bridge alteration on navigation safety, mobility, trade, commerce and economy. Also, it will address the Coast Guard program of Alteration of Bridges that benefits several states and railroad companies.
