This paper reviews selected technologiesrndevoted to anti-icing and de-icing. Among therndiscussed solutions there are Electro-ImpulsernSystem, Electro_Expulsive Separation Systemsrnin a few versions, Weeping Wing Technologyrnbased on De-icing Fluid, Shape Memory AlloysrnDeicing Technology, Ultrasound Technologyrnand Electrical Heating. Some of theserntechnologies are qualitatively compared andrntheir specific features, including powerrnconsumption, electromagnetic interference andrnenvironmental issues are discussed. Only a fewrnof these anti-icing and de-icing technologies arerncommercially available to-day. Some of themrnare still immature and need further extensiverninvestigation and testing in laboratories and inflight.rnOther are commercially available andrnare certified on older type of small and mediumrnsize aircraft. Most of these technologies arernpatented. Their full comparison and a selectionrnthe most safe and in-flight reliable solution for arnchosen class of aircraft would be possible ifrnthey are tested in the same laboratory under thernsame condition. Coming from this assumptionrnan international research project was proposed,rnwhich would create objective means forrnindependent assessment of the methodsrnavailable on the market. Patent descriptions andrndifferent companies’ websites are widelyrnreferred.
