Product family concept has been a key aspect inrnairplane manufacturer long-term strategy. Theyrncan make aggressive product differentiationrnusing common product platforms and designrncommonalities. Airplane configurations can bernrapidly modified to meet market demand in timernwith minimum development cost.rnThis paper outlines an analysis of variousrnairplanes designed based upon common designrnconcepts. The designs maintain the samerngeometry of wing and tailplane, the samernnumber and type of exits, and the same numberrnand type of engines. Fuselage is extended byrnadding frames in front and aft of wing whilernmaintaining the same cross section. For thernbaseline airplanes, the size of wing andrntailplane geometry is optimized for specificrnseating capacities under the same set of designrncontraints.rnDerivative airplanes are modified from thernbaseline airplane in which fuselage frames arernremoved or inserted to obtain the final size ofrnthe fuselage, while maintaining the same wingrnand tailplane geometry as that of the baselinernairplane. Analysis would then be carried out onrnthe flight performance, stability and controlrncharacteristics of the aircraft. Based on thernanalysis, design constraints and limitations canrnbe applied to the geometry and design of thernderivative airplane.
