Environmental Education: A Tool to Improve Sanitary Practices of the Residents at Purok 10, Barangay 9-A, Davao City, Philippines

Environmental education aims to develop an environmentally literate and responsible citizenry who will protect the environment. It enables everyone to understand and appreciate the complex nature of the environment.rnThe purpose of this study is to ascertain the effectiveness of the environmental education programs of the Barangay and the improvement of sanitary practices among the residents of Purok 10 of Barangay 9-A, Davao City.rnThe four major environmental education programs conducted by Barangay 9-A of Davao City, Philippines are: Ecological Solid Waste Management Seminar, Information and Education Campaign on Environment, Waste Characterization Seminar and Outreach Program.rnThe following conclusions are drawn: (1) Barangay 9-A implemented their environmental education programs effectively; (2) Residents' sanitary practices are improving remarkably. Solid waste segregation is practiced by the majority; (3) Residents are committed to protect the environment and improve their sanitary practices. They are very much willing to participate in any environmental education programs.
