Stem cell therapy to minimize damage after ischemic insult has been investigated in a number of clinical trials, but limited benefits have been observed. This may be due to low stem cell survival after implantation (1). A possible solution is anti-inflammatory gene therapy, but no clear idea of optimal dose exists. Thus, the following study aims to investigate the dose effect of non-viral anti-inflammatory gene therapy with interleukin-10 (IL-10) on the survival of stem cells in vivo when combined with a crosslinked collagen matrix.
