Andalusia is a region in the south of Spain where almost the 80% of the municipal solid waste (MSW)rngenerated goes to landfill disposal. There are no waste-to-energy facilities in Andalusia, then the only option torneliminate the non-recyclable and non-compostable fraction of the MSW is landfilling. We propose the use of thernMSW refuse converted into refuse derived fuel (RDF) as feedstock in a thermochemical biorefinery producingrnethanol and electricity. The objective of this study is the assessment of the time-integrated GHG emissions of thernfacility for a 100-year time horizon. For that, a methodology based on pulse emission and radiative forcing has beenrndeveloped. This kind of methodology is particularly important when the emissions are slowly produced for a periodrnof time. Results show the impact of the landfill emissions are still considerable in the year 100 and higher than thosernof the fossil and bioenergy systems. MSW as feedstock can save GHG emissions and minimize the landfill disposalrnin regions as Andalusia.
