Conversion of biomass is a research field that has taken increasingly more importance since carbonbasedrnfuels and chemicals can be produce in a sustainable/renewable way. In this work, we report the study onrnalternative catalysts for hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) based on nickel as active metal.The HDO reactions were carriedrnout in a 200ml batch autoclave. The nickel catalysts were produced by wet impregnation using different supports, likernalumina, silica, titania, zirconia and active carbon. The liquid products of the reaction were analysed using KarlrnFischer titration, elemental analysis andgas chromatography. The extend of the catalyst poisoning was evaluated byrnanalysing the catalysts after the reaction bySEM-EDX (scanning electron microscopy), TGA (thermogravimetricrnanalysis) and elemental analysis. Among the nickel-based catalysts, NiCu/Al_2O_3 showed a higher activity. The usernof the catalysts permitted to obtain a reduction of oxygen content in the upgraded oil products in comparison to thernoriginal feed. The oxygen content was in general inferior to 26% under mild conditions and the water content in thernupgraded oil was under 10%. In the GC-MS analysis, hydrogenated products were detected. Coke deposition wasrnidentified as the main poisoning for the catalysts.
