Protection against shaped charges is often based on explosive reactive armours (ERA). However such reactive devices may cause severe collateral damages. To reduce these effects, we try to obtain a reaction of the armour proportional to the calibre of the impacting shaped charge. Since reactivity of an ERA strongly depends on the characteristics of the ex-plosive filling it, we investigated various combinations of HMX and TATB. The obtained explosive mixtures are cast in 3mm layers between two 3mm thick steel plates. The efficiency of the reactive armours was tested against shaped charges with calibres ranging from 20mm to 80mm.
