For more than twenty years, ONERA has developed a semi-empirical code for the prediction of aerodynamic coefficients of weapons such as missiles or projectiles. This code, called "MISSILE", uses empirical data bases, simple theories (slender-body theory, linear theory, etc...), and the equivalent angle of attack method. The MISSILE code is quite robust in terms of geometries and flight conditions it can consider. Mach numbers can vary from 0 to 10, angles of attack from 0 to 90 degrees, control deflections up to 30 degrees, and arbitrary roll angle can be considered. Outputs provided by the code include static and damping aerodynamic coefficients. From the examples shown in the paper, it appears that a good agreement between prediction and experiment is obtained over a large Mach number and incidence range, and for different types of projectile, classical artillery projectiles or long hypervelocity projectiles. Fast, efficient and easy to use, the MISSILE code has been coupled successfully to a flight mechanics software, in order to predict the trajectory of projectiles.
