A series of buffered electrolytes based upon polyethylene glycols has been developed for use in the anodizing of powder metallurgy anodes fabricated from high CV product tantalum and niobium powders. These patented electrolytes make possible the production of highly stable anodic oxide films on anodes of the above valve metals without the destructive formation of phosphate deposits and crystalline oxide produced during anodizing with traditional phosphoric acid containing electrolytes. Examples of the observed improvement in device performance (reduced dissipation factor, wet-to- solid capacitance loss, and leakage current) are provided.
