Development of cross border gas transmission projects raise complex and interdependent issues whosernsuccessful resolution require not only technical and management strengths but also a close cooperationrnbetween the key players involved in the game.rnIn this paper we shall attempt to explain some of the major issues encountered during the appraisal andrnconstruction of long distance gas pipeline schemes. The information used derive essentially from thernexperience gained during the development of the Transmediterranean and the Maghreb/Europe pipelines.rnRunning through the various issues we shall also identify and then discuss a number of factors whichrncontributed to the successful implementation of these two projects.
