Enhanced ground-based methods for precise sea surfacernheight (SSH) measurements have been developed, inrnorder to contribute to the improvement of sea levelrnmonitoring and provide local-scale information on thernshort-wave structure of the marine gravity field. Thesernmethods include airborne laser altimetry, seabornernultrasound altimetry, seaborne multi-antenna GPSrnmeasurements and GPS-buoys. For accurate SSHrndetermination, high-precise knowledge of position andrnattitude of the survey-aircraft or ship are needed. In thisrnpaper, the approach for attitude determination usingrnmulti-antenna GPS measurements is presented. Thernexcellent performance of GPS-only attitude determinationrnis demonstrated by comparing the solutions to the data ofrna coupled GPS/INS platform operated simultaneouslyrnaboard the aircraft. SSH results from airborne laserrnaltimetry and seaborne measurements in the EasternrnMediterranean Sea are presented. Furthermore, thernapplication of GPS-buoys to measure ocean-tide effectsrnproduced very promising results, as is shown byrncomparing them to onshore pressure tide-gauge data.
