A numerical investigation was carried out in order to examine the possibilitiesrnof improving the aeroballistics of an idealized artillery projectilernconfiguration with and without lifting surfaces. Results werernobtained for Mach numbers ranging between 0.6 and 1.5 for variousrnangles of attack, roll orientations and spin rates. The projectile configurationrnis representative of a typical 155 mm shell equipped withrnfour straight profiled fins. The axial and normal forces, the static andrnroll moments were obtained for fin cant angles ranging between -14°rnand +14°. Wind tunnel, free-flight drag data and results predicted byrntwo semi-empirical/analytic codes are also presented. Results obtainedrnnumerically and experimentally were compared.
