Highly sophisticated hardening tasks to be done by high power diode lasers require a precise measurement of the surface temperature. Especially for small series or single parts, the heat treatment has to be successful at the first trial. To minimize the efforts for process development, the temperature control system LompocPro has several useful features for a flexible use in industrial applications. Beside the measurement of the real maximum surface temperature within the laser spot the system controls the motion of the pyrometer spot relative to the laser spot and identifies hot spots within the laser spot or hot edges of the part. LompocPro controls the laser power to keep the surface temperature constant at the optimum with an exactness of +- 5 K. Melting of cutting edges of expensive tools can be avoided applying this system. The performance of LompocPro was demonstrated in several applications.
