In this paper, we demonstrate a process for continuous monitoring of biomarkers from microphysiological systems. Despite the proliferation of microphysiological systems for drug screening and biological studies very few sensors exist for continous monitoring of cell secreted biomarkers from these platforms. Here, we demonstrate a chemical-free electrical regeneration process for regenerating the surface of the electrodes. The regeneration process has been demonstrated up to 30 times with little deterioration of the sensor surface. A macrophage secreted biomarker namely Interleukin 8 (IL-8) has been detected several times using the developed platform. The reusable sensor is amenable with microfluidics and will find use in cellular monitoring applications where continuous biomarker monitoring is needed.
