A model has been developed to calculate the solid-cross flow from the annulus into thernspout in shallow spouted beds consisting of solids of varying density and shape. Thernmathematical model is based on widely accepted hydrodynamic equations as continuityrnequations and on soil mechanics equations to describe solid behaviour in the annulus.rnThe performance of the proposed model provides results for spout diameter at eachrnlevel, particle velocity and bed voidage at any point in the reactor, solid flow along thernspout and the annular zones and solid cross-flow from the annulus into the spout inrnshallow spouted beds, for solids of different density and sphericity at different operatingrnconditions. The model predicts the behaviour of solid flow, as well as, solid cross-flowrnin shallow spouted beds.
