The study of light scattering by dielectric cylinders, with or without a reflecting surface, has received attention in recent years, due to the great number of possible applications in several fields of physics and engineering. For example, we could cite applications in optical fiber characterization, microwave heating, defect detection in semiconductors, and near-field optics.~1-9.
