Hardware Implementation of Energy Detection Scheme in Cognitive Radio Networks

As the number of wireless users are constantly increasing, the study of efficient spectrum utilization become very critical and important. Cognitive radio is gaining widespread attention nowadays that can possibly eliminate the future problem of spectrum scarcity and increase the efficiency of spectrum. It is based on Software Defined Radio (SDR). Most of the present work deals with the software aspects of this technology. However, to implement any technology, its hardware implementation should also be taken into account. This paper presents a model for hardware implementation for the spectrum sensing technique in Cognitive Radio Networks (CRNs) that is based on energy detection method. Proper simulation results have been presented using Questa Simulator Vsim 10.7 and RTL description has been run on the CDC (Clock Domain Crossing) tool. The model can be used in real life applications for Cognitive Radio technology.
