The electrical power systems work most part of the time in steady state. However, they must be designed to withstand the more severe requests in which occur during electromagnetic transients. Therefore, this paper presents the studies about switching transient overvoltages in the energization and tripolar reclosure over a real transmission line inserted in the Brazilian National Interconnected System (SIN), in order to verify the supportability of the surge arresters and other electrical devices connected to the line. As analyzed in this paper, the present power system withstands the switching transient overvoltages from energization and tripolar reclosure, performed by both transmission line terminals.
