The model of the Flavian Amphitheater, built by the architect Carlo Lucangeli between 1790 and 1812, is considered the first archaeological architectural model, because Lucangeli, to achieve it, personally surveyed the monument and executed archaeological excavations, reaching conclusions unknown until then. This paper, which is part of a series of publications [15] by the same authors, focuses on this occasion the project, the methodology, the problems and the solutions adopted in the instrumental survey of the model, performed with Image Based Modeling (IBM), 3D laser scanning and Gigapixel photographic acquisitions.
