Digital filters are employed for various applications ranging from aerospace, communication, video processing to biomedical applications. Similarly reconfigurable system design is an emerging approach preferred for most of the systems. Design, implementation and evaluation of dynamically reconfigurable FIR filter is proposed in this paper, wherein the cut-off frequencies, filter response, and filter type can be reconfigured on-the-fly as per the requirements of the associated system and type of application. The study, design and evaluation of different approaches for the implementation of proposed reconfigurable filter are reported in this paper, which includes evaluation between hard processor and soft processor based implementation using three different architectures. It is observed that 81.33%-99.82% hardware resources and 62.42%-64.98% power are saved on using the reconfigurable filter proposed in this paper.
