Web-based audience response systems have displaced those traditional systems that require custom hand-held remote devices. Web-based polling systems can utilize any communication channels commonly used for web data communications. This paper discusses the design requirements for cloud-based polling systems and explores several frameworks for implementing and testing such systems. Specifically, it addresses the challenges in setting up and running unit tests that involve concurrent events which commonly emerge in cloud-based polling systems. Using EZPoll as a case study, the paper presents several modern web frameworks and describes how they are incorporated into EZPoll implementation and testing.
