This paper presents an efficient forward error correction method to reduce the bit error rate in a digital video broadcasting system by implementing the Turbo coding as channel coding along with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing. As the higher order modulation schemes are proposed to increase data rate, in the meantime the error rate also increases. So in order to make the data rate high as well as to minimize the error rate the channel coding is implemented as forward error correction. Here the performance of the Reed-Solomon coding, convolution coding and the Turbo codes are analyzed as the channel coding techniques and found that the performance of the turbo code along with the convolutional code is better for the higher order modulation schemes. The symbol error rates of various higher order modulation schemes are presented and the simulations of constellation diagrams are shown.
