Evaluating the importance of CTO/CIO social networks in IT companies

The importance of social networks has drawn the attention of researchers for many years. It is a hot topic in the research line of financial intelligence. Recently, researchers discovered that the network centrality of board members is an important indicator of a company. However, no previous studies focused on the relation of the company size and the centrality of CTO/CIO. Therefore, we presented a comparison of the network centrality of CTO/CIO for different company size in this paper. These network centralities included the PageRank, the triangle counting and the degree of centrality. We compared the Standard & Poor's top 100 companies with other companies. Experiments showed that, the social network sizes of CTO/CIOs in large companies are bigger than the social network sizes of CTO/CIO in small companies. Moreover, we discovered that the size of those social networks between CTO/CIO is a key factor of the difference of the company size. For example, the average PageRank value of CIO/CTO in large company was 60 times of the average PageRank value of CIO/CTO in small business. In addition, the triangle counting value of CIO/CTO in large companies was eight times of the triangle counting value of CIO/CTO in small businesses. Furthermore, the degree of centrality of CIO/CTO in large enterprises was twice as that of small businesses. Using real world database, this paper was promising for real world applications.
