Distribution grid simulation is important method to related department for the distribution grid planning, design, testing, operation and experiment. It is common method of the distribution grid protection, measurement and control equipment function test and distribution grid automation system function test. Distribution grid simulation can be divided into real-time simulation and non-real time simulation. The real time simulation system of distribution grid based on RTDS can realize the electromagnetic transient simulation of distribution grid fault status. Through connection with the network protection equipment, controller, automatic terminal and distribution automation system main station, integration real-time simulation test can be realized, that is of the distribution automation system main station, communication and terminal. Due to hardware and financial limited, distribution grid simulation test based on RTDS using in actual application is very difficult. According to actual power grid, the simulation system based on distribution grid simulation tool can realizes the real-time simulation of the actual power grid, but can only do function test of the distribution grid automation system main station. Considering the advantages and disadvantages of the simulation system based on RTDS and distribution grid simulation tool, in this paper, a joint simulation system based on RTDS and distribution grid simulation tool was presented. The joint simulation system, which integrates the advantages of simulation system based on RTDS and based on distribution grid simulation tool, can realize the actual power grid simulation, and can realize joint function test of distribution grid automation system main station, terminal and communication system.
