Extreme load value is a critical part in load spectrum compiling. To make a reliable spectrum to improve the reliability and durability of component, it is necessary to do research on extreme load. In this paper, the extreme value theory (EVT) is used to do extreme load value analysis with short time load spectrum to avoid the shortcoming of long traditional test time. The whole process of extreme load analysis has been illustrated in detail. The peak over threshold (POT) model is founded. Two uncertainty factors of the model, parameter estimation and threshold selection, are introduced. The goodness of fit tests are employed to verify the feasibility of the model. According to the return value analysis, the extreme load extrapolate value has obtained. Finally, the torque of wheel loader axle shaft is taken as an example, and the final result is in a reasonable range which shows the applicability of EVT in construction machinery.
